Controversial series coming to Greencastle

Monday, April 5, 2010

GREENCASTLE -- Moore's Bar in downtown Greencastle has confirmed the controversial "Girls Gone Wild Bus Tour" will be at the bar on April 21.

Francis

The "Girls Gone Wild" franchise is a video series produced by Joe Francis and Mantra Films. Cameras follow young women into bars and clubs and offer them franchise clothing if they expose their body on camera or engage in sexual activity on film. The tour group crosses the country attending over 400 live events a year.

The event is standing room only and bar owner Carolyn Hammond will have to remove most of the seating for the event.

While this is not a DePauw University sponsored event, many staff and students are concerned with issues that often arise from the tour.

"I'm not sure why they decided to come to DePauw. We think it's probably because of the rankings we've had in the Princeton Review," said a group of eight students eating at the Monon Diner Friday evening.

DePauw was named as the nation's No. 15 party school and No. 15 for beer--drinking by the Princeton Review in their last rankings issue.

"Yeah, people party, but not like at IU or some other schools. We do a lot of good things at DePauw. It would be a shame for people to overlook all the positive things here just because 'Girls Gone Wild' decided to come to Greencastle," added several of the coeds.

Ken Owen, Director of Public Relations with DPU acknowledged that the event is a private venue and hopes students will make smart decisions.

"It's a free country, but there are many, many, many venues which a person can express themselves. People don't consider before they do things that video images last a long, long time. Some will be out there for an eternity," Owen said.

"Once Pandora's out of the box, you're not getting her back in. Carefully consider the long range implications of things that seem innocent and cute at the time," advised Owen.

Joe Francis is himself a highly controversial producer who has been arrested numerous times for sexual assault and tax evasion. He was most recently sued by Wynn Resorts for non-paid gambling debts.

In 1997, at the age of 24, Francis founded Mantra Films, Inc. He grew his company after discovering he could film college-age women "going wild," including baring their breasts for the cameras at spring break destinations and other locales.

Mantra has become a company with over 30 employees and has recorded sales in excess of $10 million per year, but their success has come with much controversy.

In 2002, Becky Lynn Gritzke discovered that she had been covertly filmed flashing her breasts at a Mardi Gras festival and that the image had been used without her permission on billboards advertising "Girls Gone Wild" videos and on the cover of a video. She sued Mantra Films and settled for an undisclosed sum under an agreement according to which GGW agreed to cease distributing all material bearing Gritzke's image

In an incident at Panama City Beach, Fla., during spring break 2003, Francis was arrested and then released on a $165,000 bond. He was initially charged with 71 separate counts, including racketeering, drug trafficking and child pornography. Police confiscated his private jet and other property.

On March 12, 2008, Francis was convicted on child abuse and prostitution charges after pleading no contest in a plea bargain. He also pleaded guilty to charges related to having contraband in his cell during the time he was held in jail. He was sentenced to time served (339 days) and more than $60,000 in fines and costs.

On March 25, 2008, four women filed suit against him in Florida for filming them while underage, with one girl claiming she had been 13 when filmed.

Claire Hoffman reported in an article in the Los Angeles Times that Francis had pinned her against a car and twisted her arm when he was reenacting an incident he had with police in Panama City. Police had to separate Francis from Hoffman.

Other controversies include allegations of conspiracy to use minors in sexual performances. A 2006 Los Angeles Times interview mentions accusations of aggression toward women including repeated harassment and referring to them by epithets for the female genitalia, a death threat, and a rape accusation that Francis contested.

Francis is being sued by the Wynn Las Vegas casino for $2 million in gambling debt from February 2007. The lawsuit was filed on June 27, 2008 in Clark County District Court. In court, Francis constantly pleaded the Fifth Amendment.

The judge in the case ruled that Francis was liable for the entire $2 million, calling the producer's conduct "the most ridiculous exercise of the Fifth Amendment I think I've ever seen

On April 11, 2007, Francis was indicted by a federal grand jury in Reno, Nevada on two counts of tax evasion.

Francis was charged with filing a fraudulent corporate tax return for a company for which he allegedly is the sole shareholder. The United States Department of Justice asserts that Francis claimed over $20 million in false business deductions on his corporate tax returns during 2002 and 2003.

At a hearing on July 21, 2008, Francis pleaded not guilty to felony tax evasion. Francis' attorney said that tax returns for the businesses were prepared and filed by a former corporate accountant without being shown to Francis.

On Feb. 2, 2009, Francis was arrested for failing to attend his court hearing. The following day, he was released to home detention and electronic monitoring on the grounds that he was too sick to attend the hearing.

In September 2009, Francis pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns and bribing Nevada jail workers. The plea agreement reportedly requires him to pay $250,000 in restitution. He would receive credit for the time he has served in jail, and would be subject to one year of supervised release.

On Nov. 5, 2009, U.S. District Judge S. James Otero accepted Francis' deal on the grounds that a key witness withheld information from prosecutors.

The next day, the IRS filed a federal tax lien in the amount of $33,819,087.14 for failing to pay personal income taxes for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 calendar years. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors and will have to pay back taxes of $249,705 to spare some jail time.

Around Nov. 18, 2009; Francis himself stated the IRS seized over $100,000,000 in cash from various bank accounts.

Despite the controversy and worries about "Girls Gone Wild" coming to town, there are those who are fans and are looking forward to the group's visit. Most appear to be young men who plan to attend the event.

"Sure, I'll go. Why not?" said one DePauw student who asked not to have his name used. "It'll be a good time for me and the brothers."

Several of his "brothers" agreed, stating they planned to be at the event on April 21.

  • Why, pray tell, would Moore's Bar want to be a part of this?

  • Really? Did they do any scouting whatsoever? There is no way they would get any good footage, it will be all the good ol' boys in town hoping to get a little peep show at the one or two women actually in the place.

  • Moore's Bar wants to be a part of it because they will rake in big bucks. We are being warned that they are coming, if you don't want to be a part of it or see it..don't go to Moore's that night and don't buy the video. Hopefully Moore's will take special care to make sure all the participants (and everyone else in the bar) are of legal age.

  • Moore'a used to be a nice place for local business folks, professionals and locals could have a drink after work. It is now a dump.

  • This just makes no sense to me. This guy has been arrested for racketeering, drug trafficking, child pornography, felony tax evasion, child abuse, prostitution and more. And now he has been invited to our community to film girls exposing their breasts at Moore's bar??? Are you serious?!?!?!?! At least there is a picture of this low life posted so I can make sure to avoid him and keep my children away from him while he is in town filming his pornography!

  • Says a LOT about them to allow such a thing. It's all about the money though. Anyone wanting to be part of that is pretty much a loser anyway. Sad that Greencastle is 'on the map' for something as disgusting as this though....

  • If DePauw University were not here, this trash would not be brought to Greencastle. Number 15th ranked party school and beer drinking school. Oh, for the days of Russell Humbert as president! What a blot on Greencastle with this rotten stuff coming to Moore's Bar!

  • Why in the world would our community allow this? What a disgrace

LOL, Greencastle's already on the map for far more disgusting behavior than this. The only further damage it could do is if viewers google the word Greencastle and Banner Graphic stories pop up in their search results.

  • How are the county commissioners allowing this to happen? Aren't there laws against nudity, strip clubs(which it will be). Is someone going to be there carding people, because this guy is known for using underage girls...Way to go Greencastle, Way to go!!!!!

  • Why is Depauw even mentioned in this trash/pornography issue? I would really like to know..

When I think of Depauw, I think of "Depauw University" not to be associated with with matters such as this. I think a 'raid' is in order and underage participants be arrested and jailed for however long is legal. And fined to the

    extent of the law.

  • Wake up Greencastle let the people live. This town needs something to wake it up ! This may not be it, but it is a start ! This town is out of date and behind times. We need for something to happen around here. Let the kids be kids. It is for the young and older. It will bring money to the town. Moores bar has been here for ever and will be. Let them do something to make money ! No I don't drink nor do I go to the bars. This is a free country isn't it ?

    -- Posted by nova5080 on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 2:39 PM
  • Its not a DePauw issue. Dear Umad, it works like this. Get a bunch of young Women drunked up. Lower there defences, tell them how pretty they are, get them to make a bad decision, take thier picture, leave town, make a lot of money, leave the town to deal with the mess later. Lets invite your, Mom, wife, sister, daughter, cousin, neighborhood girls to this great event. They'll have a great time trust me.

  • For those of you thinking the ladies from Greencastle and surrounding areas won't show up to be a part of it, I'm thinking you are wrong. This kind of thing goes on at a lot of the bars all the time. A lot of the local bands carry beads with them just to get the women to show their breasts at the bars. The only difference will be that there will be a camera there this time from a popular tv show. Which will only entice women more to come out. Just like Mardi Gras. Tons of women go to Mardi Gras for the sole purpose of showing their breasts and getting beads for it. Who cares as long as they are all adults? They aren't hurting anyone. Seriously..there are worse things going on in Greencastle. If you don't want to see it. DON'T GO SEE IT!!

The reason Depauw is mentioned is because it is a college and the only reason GGW is even coming to Greencastle. The show is coming in hopes that the women from the college will come out and party.

hardtobelieve...it isn't like these women are going to show up at the bar unaware that GGW is there to film. GGW isn't going to slip them something to "lower their defences" and take advantage of them. Those that show up, will do so knowing ahead of time. They are adults, if they make a bad choice while drinking, that is THEIR choice. No one is forcing them to do anything. That would be like blaming the bar because they served a woman alcohol and she got drunk and decided to go home with a complete stranger and have a one night stand. If one can't control their actions while under the influence and they are araid they will do something they will regret, then they should stay home or at least not drink once they get there.

  • putnammom,

this guys gets underage girls in these shows and at bars......he gets high school girls and because he "brings in the money" the establishments allow him to bring in these underage girls, they drink, get drunk (and yes possibly get slipped something) to loose control. so yes it is a problem. I'm really worried that your name is "putnammom" and you don't see a problem with this!!!!

-- Posted by girlmd on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 4:39 PM
  • Really? Greencastle is more worried about girls bearing breasts then they are ANYTHING else, apparently. If this is all you have to worry about, check out the school system. Check out what they don't do. Check out the drugs being dealt in the park that YOU send YOUR kids to. Lighten up. This guy may be a creep, but like putnammom said, these girls know the cameras are there, and that is why they are going.

-- Posted by purplemonkey on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 5:23 PM
  • Depauw is far from a "partying school" and it ranks high because the high percentage of students that are involved in the Greek system.

-- Posted by Harmony Church on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 6:08 PM
  • This has nothing to do with Depauw. This has to do with a greedy, perverted bar owner. Any woman that thinks it ok for young women to expose their body so they the bar owner can make a profit is just right out evil. This kind of choice will follow these young women the rest of their life. And the Bar Owner of Moore's Bar is responsible for it. Give me a break does no one have any character or integrity anymore. I can not believe the owner of this bar would fall to this level. Believe you me....Girls Gone Wild would not come here if she didn't open her doors up to them.

  • I'm kind of peeved as to why this has to be on the same date as a classy night for Greencastle High School - the Top 10% Dinner. That's quite an awkward juxtaposition of events for us to deal with. Hopefully nothing crazy spills over onto campus, and if it does, I sincerely hope campus security takes care of it, since GGW is in NO WAY sanctioned by DPU.

    -- Posted by onbass100 on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 9:29 PM
  • Maybe not sanctioned, but obviously condoned.

GGW is coming here for a reason & it is definitely NOT the local scenery.

So you are worried about my ability to be a good mother because I think adult women can make their own choices? I specifically said "Hopefully Moore's will take special care to make sure all the participants (and everyone else in the bar) are of legal age." My point was that I don't think it's fair to be upset with only the bar owners or the tv show. I KNOW where my underage children are at ALL times. So you don't need to be "worried." (Nice low blow by the way, bringing my mothering into this conversation..very mature) My underage children wouldn't have the oppprtunity to be at the bar showing their naked bodies. If parents took a little more care to know where there children were, we wouldn't have near the problem we have when it comes to minors getting into trouble. So why not get on here and bash the parents of those minors or the women that go to these establishments and bare their bodies? people on this page are acting as if these are all "poor innocent little girls" that are tricked into showing their naked bodies so they can be filmed. I agree that the bar needs to take extra care in making sure that these women are of legal age. If they do not do so, and allow underage girls into their establishment then they should get in trouble. But as far as adult women coming into the bar and baring their bodies for this show..that is THEIR choice. If they go there and LOSE control, that is a choice they made. I think there are more important things for the community to worry about.

-- Posted by putnammom on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 10:39 PM
  • putnammom,

I never said that you were a bad mother, I simply stated that it worries me that your name is what it is and you don't see a problem with this. I know these are "adult" woman, but as a woman doesn't it upset you that some people feel the need to do this and that there are people to exploit them? Doesn't upset you that our community is going to allow this?

As far as knowing where your children are at all times, its nice that you raised your children well; however please don't be like some parents I know and be naive enough to think that you know where your children are at all times. Unless your children never leave your side or unless they have tracking devices on, we can never know where our children are at all times. We just hope and pray that we have raised them well enough that they make the right decisions. That's all we can do.

I truly am sorry if I offended you. That was not my intention.

-- Posted by girlmd on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 11:17 PM
  • Dont spend much time complaining about adult women showing their bodies at a adult bar.Drive over to the high schools and middle schools in Greencastle and Cloverdale and see where the REAL problems are.Between parents not paying attention to what these 11 to 18 year old daughters are wearing and showing and the disgusting male controlled school administrative staffs turning a blind eye, those schools look more like Hooters than a place of learning. If we seem to not care about our 11-18 year old girls and what they wear, show and how they present themselves, how should there be a uproar over adult women doing the same. Both arent right, just saying, care about these young girls BEFORE they have been convinced letting it all hang out is to their advantage or brings attention they should want.

  • Moores Bar has been SOLD! Carolyn's Father and her partner, sister (Lois) have died, let her have one last hoorah! If your daughters are foolish enough to be a part in this then so be it. But don't blame the bar owners, DePauw, or the city for what may or may not happen on the 21st. Everyone wants to blame someone for innappropriate actions. Welcome to 2010 kids. And if you think for a minute that Moore's isn't going to be overflowing with college/townies that night...you're wrong. It may be the one thing that brings the two together, if only for one night. I will be waiting patiently to see the Scanner the next day:)

  • Funny thing about all the complaining is that your husbands probably have a stash of these DVDs hidden somewhere in your house. I just hope they don't get this video and see their daughter staring back at them. Oh, the irony.

You might not have said "you're a bad mother" but you were questioning my abilities. Because you wouldn't have been "worried" and brought up my name if my name had happened to be "putnamcarlover". I know where my children are because I speak to the parents of where my child will be. I make sure there will be an adult present. I check up on them to make sure that is where they are. I drop them off and i pick them up. I don't pretend to think, that for the rest of their underage life, I will know their every single move, but I do take every measure possible to make sure I know where they are.

And no as a woman, it doesn't upset me. I'm not one of those women that say "This is degrading to these poor women". Because it is women that are choosing to be in these videos. It isn't me at the bar getting naked. If these women feel the need to do so, then it isn't my business. Do I agree with it, would I go to that bar..nope. But I don't condemn others that do because what other adults do, is not my concern. I feel there are other issues that are going on in this community that deserve my attention besides a bunch of women, KNOWINGLY going to the bar, getting drunk and showing their bodies. They aren't going there thinking it's a church gathering. They know ahead of time, exactly what is going to go on there and it is why they are going. If they were holding this event at the high school..then I would be concerned. If the busy bodies in this town would focus their attention on real issues, maybe we could clean this town up and actually make something out of it. Right now, we can't even keep a Sonic in business!

  • In an early comment someone wanted to know why the county commissioners were allowing this to happen, I am curious when the county commissioners took over management of Greencastle City. It is not the commissioners responsibility to care for the city, that is why residents vote for a Mayor! And the Mayor has a City Chief of Police! I am certain that the Commissioners are as concerned as any other citizen, but they have no authority over what happens within the city limits.

-- Posted by hoosierpete on Tue, Apr 6, 2010, at 9:33 AM
  • Anyone who thinks this is okay has a broken moral compass. I live in Greencastle with my family and small children to avoid things like this in larger communities. And yes, it may happen in the other bars in town on a Saturday night, but those events are not publically placed in our town newspaper, on local news, and no videos are being mass produced from the night's happenings. And by all means, throw fault on the school system in order to push the controversy onto another situation that has absolutely nothing to do with this topic.

Yep, it's the woman's choice. Now, ask yourself this... are you okay with saying it's her choice when it's your neice? Your daughter? Your wife? The man that started this whole business is a pig... smart, but a pig nonetheless. I'm sure there's a special place in hell for him with those child pornography claims.

And yes, DePauw girls will inevitabely go. Have you ever driven around campus late at night, and seen what they are (or are not) wearing? It's a game to them... they don't realize the implications this could have on their future careers, or families.

Write to the mayor's office if you don't like this, or don't ever frequent Moore's bar again. Let's see if the money they make off of this can carry them when no one patrons the bar anymore.

  • You go putnammom. I agree with everything you are saying. The other comment I do not agree with (from someone else) is that without DePauw, IBM, Ivy Tech would not be here! That is ludicrous. Those that think this town couldn't survive without DePauw should move somewhere else. Not all students stop at Wal-mart. They go out of town. And if they don't have a car, they are stuck shopping at the small handful of clothing shops that we have here. And yes, putnammom, if the busy bodies would concentrate on what is not going on in this town, maybe something would get done besides "going green" and worrying aobut those **** light bulbs. Keep raising your children the way you are. These girls and yes boys that attend the GGW party are of age. It sounds as most people would like for this town to stay the way it is and not evolve into bigger towns that supply us with what we need, want and deserve! But then again, people need to remember this come election time. Let's get people in here who care about the town, not just DePauw. They can hold there own.

  • When i first heard this was coming into town i didn't give much thought to it because the women choose to do it and that is their right. After reading the large article about this producer(if you call that producing)it is sickening how many charges he has had against him. When i got to the violence againse women and then child pornography i was disgusted. It sounds like he really hates women to me. I hope that the women or girls that are planning to go have some class and make him feel like an idiot and not fall for it and god i hope there aren't grown men in their 30's and 40's and so one watching the small town girls that are the same ages as their own daughters. yuck!

  • Well, Drive by shootings and GGW coming to GC? Look's like things are looking UP back there in GC!!

OK, Just Kidding.....GGW is nothing you want in GC..What GGW leaves in it's wake is usually NOT a good thing. GGW is an Alcohol ( and some times Drug ) Fueled Mess that takes advantage young Women who, as the article stated, end up regretting their actions later. Joe Francis and his film crew are basically gonna "Rape" GC in the name of Profit for his own gain....and leave. He has NO remorse for his actions nor care for the ramifications of it or the impact of the lives he and GGW has ruined. Yes, some of the girls he has filmed do so on their own accord and are Adults and some have no problem with it. There are plenty of Freaks out there to fuel GGW for Years to come. However, some have been in such states of Alcohol intoxication and goaded on by this company and others there with them, that they do things that they normally would not and that is where the problem is. Lawsuits and HIS arrests is where the crux of the issue lies with him and GGW. Come on, in your time have you ever been so drunk that did something that you later regretted? Maybe not, but maybe ya have, Well GGW takes FULL advantage of that fact and BINGO...Your Little girl is Viral on the net showing something she may NOT have wanted to do. The Mayor is gonna have to grant Overtime I am sure to have additional City Police and well as PCSD also on hand for crowd control.

Make NO Mistake, Moore's WILL be overflowing with college/townies that night as well as people from surrounding areas to boot.

I just hope when Francis's Porn Circus rolls in and out of Putnam County, that the Damage it leaves in it's wake doesn't leave too much Damage.

What is the need for all of these councils and committees if no one knows who is in charge of what. I'm sorry I didn't realize who was supposed to be in charge. If you could enlighten me I would greatly appreciate it...who is in charge of ordinances or other items in this county (pertaining to porn and incident exposure). Please let me know

  • I agree with girlmd, how can this type of behavior be allowed. Did this have to be brought to the attention of the Mayor or County Commisioners to be voted on? How is this legal, is it not porn or at least indecent exposure? Please enlighten me, I can't walk into any store or place of business & remove my top without being arrested, so how is this allowed? Putnammom, really are your for real? You call yourself a mom & you want this kind of behavior in your community. I want your opion when your child becomes college age.

  • I really curious what the Mayor's opinion is, why hasn't the banner interviewed her? I also am curious also, how many people will be allowed in this establishment? I'm pretty sure there are codes in place that will not allow for a large crowd in this place of business, so again who approved this?

  • To Neverends...

If you are unhappy with this town, then maybe it's time you left for greener pastures. As you stated, it is a free country (which I'm so sick of being thrown around as an excuse for inexcusable behavior), and for that reason, we have the right to be upset by this display of immorality to come to our town. It is our right to stand against child pornography (and NOT anyone's right to have it). It is our right as citizens to stand up and say we don't want a make-shift strip club and mardi gras four blocks from an elementary school. Rights as United States citizens go both ways, my dear.

P.S. Caps locks is really annoying, FYI. And hard to read.

  • How is everyone taking this so seriously? Especially when two of the biggest jokes (Moore's Bar & GGW) are combining forces? Yes, we've all got our opinions of Moore's, and the list of 'accomplishments' on Mr. Francis' record can leave but very few (negative) opinions of him- but c'mon, this is classic! Francis is clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel coming to Greencastle in search of material for his videos. I have enough faith in the female students of DePauw to avoid exchanging their flesh for generic tshirts, hats, and necklaces. As for the male students of DePauw who may or may not be in attendance- the ones who do show up will surely be saddened by the worn-out, talentless, daddy-issue having attendees that are sure to be there ferociously clawing for their 5 seconds of 'fame'.

On the bright side, IF Francis decides to use any footage obtained that night in one of his videos, we can all rest assured that his 'business' has that much more of a chance of failing.... errr... unless the usuals holding down the bar stools at Moore's decide to purchase them to "re-live the dream".

Sadly I won't be there that night though, it's my night to cook dinner. :/

Are YOU for real? Why do people think it is necessary to continue to say something about my ability to be a good mother? You do not know me. You have no clue what kind of mother I am. Is it because you are so shallow minded that you think, just because I don't share the same opinion as YOU, that it means I have to be a bad mother? At least I can participate in an adult conversation without mudslinging. There are going to be different opinions on such a controversial subject. You can debate those views like an adult, or you can choose to name call and degrade people.

And just so you know I DO have a step daughter that graduated from I.U. My sons are not there quite yet. But I also have 4 sisters and a brother that are all college age. What they do as ADULTS, is their own business. Do I have to like or agree with everything they choose to do, no I don't. Plus I do not recall ever saying I WANTED this type of behavior in the community, I simply said it is their own choice to participate. So I will thank you for not putting words in my mouth. Why not choose something useful to complain about to your Mayor? Why waste your time and energy complaining about a bunch of adult women choosing to get drunk and show their own bodies on television? It's their body..not yours!

  • Girls gone wild has been here a while already! So all you dude's that are perverts here is all you do. Just borrow any boys phone from Greencastle High School and I know for a fact you will see how your daughters of Greencastle spend time. Oh ! and it's girls that have good parents, look like they should wear halo's and are smart in school and good in sports. It's ton's of them! They do their pouty zoolander pose but do it with out clothes on! Shoot! this nothing compared to the porn GGGW are making!

  • to msbehavin thats a real nice name to be judging me all i said was it is not child porn and you are quite rude for saying that it is woman over the age of 18 like you never did anything when you was younger but thats beside the point you know the comment on here about how most of the girls in middle and highschool act nowadays is not any diff i have seen some of the ways these girls dress now and it is pathetic and i have seen how they act how about we shut down the greencastle pool and park because if you drive through there in the summer time it's not much diff i will not allow my children to go to the pool simply because of how most of the young girls and im talking young girls dress and act and a bunch of boys hanging outside arround the fence its not much diff and i tell you one thing there is alot of hyp in to how things are done in this town you are intiltled to your opion as well as i am!!!!!!!!

  • The sickest part of all this is that the reason this man still has a job and lots of money is because girls keep shwoing up to bare all(supply) AND guys keep buying it (demand).

So its really society keeping this going. As a former college student... I went through my wild days but i would never particiapte in this. Mostly, because I think the guy is a slimeball and wouldnt want any part in making him richer.

  • Moores?! This guy doesn't have very high expectations, or he's been lied to.

Maybe some of the Greencastle faithful that don't want this coming to town could wait in front of Moores with torches and pitchforks. Just like in the olden days.

-- Posted by JustinH on Tue, Apr 6, 2010, at 6:24 PM
  • To all of you who have made mention of this, I agree:

The material Francis is going to find at Moore's will most certainly disappoint, and hopefully DePauw gals will know better than to stray anywhere near the skeezeball.

  • It may not be what you think is approiate but you have no right to stop it, this is kinda like the smoking ban, no one person or group should be allowed to tell you that you cant allow smoking in youre buisness. And since none of you seem to know they get naked on the bus and at hotels I would assume the walden inn. But anyway no one has the right to stop anything like this at a private buisness this is not china or north korea. GET OVER IT.....FROM THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF GREENCASTLE!!!

-- Posted by the truth be told on Tue, Apr 6, 2010, at 10:11 PM
  • So, who is it that's being exploited? The women who attend the event, or the idiots that buy the video? Speaking of idiots, why is MsBehaving driving around campus checking-out what the girls are (or aren't) wearing? It's OK, you can come out of the closet; fetishes such as yours are acceptable now.

-- Posted by chp on Tue, Apr 6, 2010, at 10:21 PM
  • To the "Peoples Republic of Greencastle", I would like to formally apologize for my previous statements... I did some research online (so you know it has to be true), Mr. Francis has recently given up his idea of 'Girls Gone Wild' and is immediately launching a new concept appropriately called "White Trash Gone Wild".... And what better place to shoot your first dvd than at Moore's in Greencastle? At this time, I'd like to tip my hat to Mr. Francis for his foresight and great sense of demographical interpretation... He's a true pioneer and a heck of a businessman.

    Cheers, WTGW!

  • If you think any DePauw students are going to willingly strip down for GGW, your sadly wrong. I can't imagine Moores being swamped by female students willingly ready to lose all inhibitions to be documented on a pg-17 strip flick.

I predict an 8-1 guy to girl ratio that night with a whole onslaught of classy cammo loving patrons looking for a cheep thrill which i'm sure 2-3 ambitious GC native ladies will provide for the event.,

What will more than likely happen once GGW rolls into Greencastle is that they'll quickly realize that the hole in the wall establishment that everyone has grown to love, isn't exactly a breeding ground for attractive college women.

Is it crazy they're coming here? Sure, why not. I think it's more crazy that they're wasting their money bringing a traveling video production to moores with hopes of catching hours of "quality" footage.

Possibly Moores' last ditch effort to make a quick buck could be the case? A business risk is being taken, and obviously enough people have a problem with it that it may ruin whats left of Moores, rather than bring in 6 months rent in one night.

I tip my hat to anyone who takes a risk, but this is business suicide for the simple fact that Greencastle is too conservative for the likes of Girls Gone Wild.

Then again, who knows. Maybe i'll be sitting on my couch 6 months from now at 2:00 AM watching a GGW commercial featuring inhibition-less LOCALS (not to be confused with college students) stripping down at one of the "WILDEST BARS IN THE MIDWEST!!!!"

  • Putnammom, I think if you have the right to publish your opinion, then I have all rights to give mine. If you don't like it, don't read it. Your so quick to judge everyone else, look at all the comments. All of us have a strong opinion on this. I agree that if you choose to take your top off it's your choice, my problem is that it's in downtown G'castle, you want to do it in your own home or private party that's your decision. I 'm just curious how the Mayor or other city officials think and why the Banner hasn't interviewed them. Putnammom, you have such a strong opinion of this, maybe you have already been in one of his video's, sorry I can't imagine having that kind of trash around for my children to pick up & watch.

You obviously are not reading what I write. I never once said you didn't have the right to post your comment on here. Just that you should do it with some dignity. You only keep proving to everyone that you can't debate this issue like an adult. Accusing me of being a bad mother and being in the videos and having this trash around for my children to watch just because I don't agree with you. And give me one example of how I was quick "judge everyone else". I have been one of the few NOT judging anyone in this conversation. And not that it is anyone's business but I have 0 films in my home of this nature. I personally think it's disgusting. I don't want to see it, so I don't put myself in the position to see it. I don't buy the videos and I don't go to the bar when I know GGW will be there filming. But I also know that not everyone agrees with me. And what others do is their own business.

And it's not in downtown Greencastle. This bar will be throwing their own party in the bar. Not on the courthouse lawn! They are advertising and letting people know ahead of time what will be going on inside this bar. Every single person that will be attending this gathering, will know exactly what to expect when they walk through that door. They aren't getting naked on the street, they aren't throwing this party at the school and it is hardly like walking into the store and lifting your top like you mentioned before. This is an ADULT party where everyone is aware of what will happen. You don't want your children to see? Then don't allow your children to go down to Moore's and see it and don't buy the video afterward. Simple as that.

  • Putnammom, obviously you think I care. My first post please tell me were it stated anything about your parenting skills. My comment was in regards to you commenting on girlmd, I would like to keep it to the article. You seem to be worried about what others think about you. I myself don't really care. So please quit writing 2-3 paragraphs about yourself. I don't approve of what is going on in downtown Greencastle, again my opion only. Sorry you easily become offended. You do not have to prove to me your a good mother only to your children. If you approve of porn and indicent exposure, I guess maybe they will give you Mother of the Year award.

"You call yourself a mom" was what you put in your first post. It was inappropriate and had nothing to do with the article. And lets just break down what you have said so far. "You call yourself a mom", "Your so quick to judge everyone else" (which you have still failed to show where I did that), "maybe you have already been in one of his video's, sorry I can't imagine having that kind of trash around for my children to pick up & watch." and now "If you approve of porn and indicent exposure, I guess maybe they will give you Mother of the Year award." (which I have clearly stated in several comments that I don't approve and personally think it is disgusting)

If you don't want me to reply, stop talking to me and if you don't want the conversation to be about me, stop saying things about me. You want to take cheap shots and me not reply..lol. And you are right, I was talking to girlmd NOT you. If you look back, YOU were the one to lash out at ME first. So don't get mad at me bc I reply to your hateful comments.

  • LOL..I haven't heard blah blah blah since the third grade. Did you stick out your tongue and make the face too when you wrote that?

This will be the end of my replies to you. Obviosuly you are not capable of participating in an adult discussion.

-- Posted by putnammom on Wed, Apr 7, 2010, at 4:26 PM
  • what exactly are Casey7780 and putnammom trying to validate? who's the better mom with the topic of "should girls show their private parts in our town or not?" Give me a break. it doesnt matter how conservative someone is or isn't, at the end of the day the most right wing folks have sick minds just like the left wing.

Maybe everyone should stop focusing on what one business owner is chosing to do and focus on where your kids are at 10 PM on a friday night.

The fact is, your kid isn't attending GGW, nor is any two legged being walking in there without a valid ID that reads 21+. Im sure half of your kids have already done far worse than flash a camera when you think they're at susy's house for the night playing scrabble.

It's 2010 and high school kids are doing far worse things than anyone cares to acknowledge.I dont care if your a christian attending the GCC or a southern baptist who gets their kicks off by drinking whiskey and playing with rattlesnakes, you've ALL done irresponsible acts in your life, you've all made mistakes, and your all judging people because of their opinions on the subject of girls gone wild.

Grow the hell up and stop acting like your opinion is going to stop girls from doing what they want or dont want to do. If your for it, good for you, if your against it, good for you. If girls gone wild is your biggest concern in our town right now, your a sad sad individual with too much time on your hands.

Aren't there more important issues in our city to discuss or give a **** about? Look at the front page today. Cops are being shot at in our town by seemingly corrupt white trash and your wondering how many nipples are going to slip when a TV crew rolls through? Small town drama created by folks that have and will live here their entire lives. Grow up, it's 2010 and this city is so far behind on forward progression to better the community because of people like all of you who think situations like these are the end of the world, or the greatest idea. At the end of the day, GGW wont come to greencastle because too many people will voice their opinions about how our little version of pleasentville will be gone in a flash if they were to come.

Greencastle has so much potential to be one of the fastest growing cities in the midwest, but i dont ever forsee it happening with all of the opinionated locals whom have lived here their whole lives that put a foot down when anything new comes about. The majority of the citizens dont want or like change for the city. I'm not saying GGW coming to town will change the city (personally i think GGW wasting their time at a bar in GC)but it goes to show, with all of the comments that have been left, that everyone just likes to complain.

Complain on greencastle, thats what your known for.

But it upsets me when you can't leave a comment without someone thinking they need to attack you or your family because you don't have the same opinion they do.

  • I bet all the officers in this town are stoked they will get to use all thier new toys and fill up their cell blocks! Then the local court system will benifit as all the people arrested will be under the thumb of the law and dishing out thousands of dollars in fine money. After the dust has cleared the GPD will get that brand new coffee machine they so despertly needed.

  • Neverends.... thanks for taking off the caps locks. Now, if you could break your paragraph into sentences instead of one LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG sentence that would be great. And I would like to thank you for paying attention in English class in highschool.

And my name is Ms. Behaving. Meaning I do and did behave. I'm not perfect, by any means, but given today's standards I was a REALLY good kid. The wrath of my father was nothing I wanted to deal with, and I hope that the girls that go to Moore's bar that night really think about how their actions affect more then themselves... for years to come.

To chazm_vet - I had three friends who went to DePauw that I hung out with quite a bit on the weekends just a couple of years ago. I saw it first hand. So while you may get all excited thinking I'm checking out other girls, you'll be sadly disappointed. However, fetishes such as yours are apparently accepted now, so I hear.

LOL

  • That's what i'm talking about it goes on all over this town you know i think honestly the only reason anybody in the comm is having a problem with it is because moore's would get the money. not this godforsaking town that doesn't deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!! obviously our paper cant even tell the truth why should anybody else!!!! You know what is so funny when i got on here earlier at the top left corner of the screen they was advertising moore's ohh but it's such a bad bar though right??? MY point exct, as long as the city would benefit from it and receive monetary gain from it it's ok to do hummmmmmmmmmmm???????

And there was never a bullet to avoid. If it was me i would have done it no matter what anyone thought because i know most of you would have showed up anyways....... And no you wouldnt be there to picket it dont lie to yourself you would be there because nobody knows who anybody is on here and i can guarantee atleast half if not more people that have complained and made a big deal about it would have shown up or atleast they go or have gone to moore's and probably acted just the same.....
