Joan Hutcheson Jackson, 82, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother died in her sleep Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Born the second daughter of Celia Marie Boling Hutcheson and Kenneth W. Hutcheson in Greencastle on Oct. 22, 1927, she was the loving sister of Rosalie (Feld), Marilyn (York) and Jack, who all preceded her in death. She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1945 and was active in helping organize her class reunions until a few years ago. Her friends knew her as "Jo."

Mrs. Jackson was the mother to Susan and Kenneth (Polly), and devoted all her life to the loving care and support of her children, who survive. She loved her grandchildren Nikki (Wills) and Paul and cherished the time she spent with her great-grandchildren, Maya and Jaden (Wills).

She was a graduate of Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1949 and worked a short time as a registered nurse, prior to raising her family. After her sisters passed away at a young age, she became the matriarch aunt to her nephews and nieces Chuck, David, Gary, Laura Beth Kaelin (Evens) and Patrick and Andrea Bertrum (Feld), who all survive. Her nephew David Evens preceded her in death.

Also surviving are her cousins, Jeanne Jones and Manassas, Va., Fred Hutcheson of Florida, sister and brother-in-law Richard and Louella Jackson and her nephews Steve, Jimmy and Mark Jackson.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tri Kappa sorority and was a hospital and library volunteer. She was also a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Much of her life was spent caring for her daughter Susan and she did so unselfishly. She loved to sew, tend to her flower garden and was an avid reader of historical novels. She traveled when she was able.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
