Climate wise women presenting panel discussion

The Prindle Institute at DePauw University is the setting for a panel discussion with Climate Wise Women (Cw2) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Presented by DePauw University Environmental Club and Office for Sustainability, the Prindle Institute, Hoosier Environmental Council and CARE, the four-woman panel will discuss climate change and its effect on women, children, families and communities around the world.

The dynamic foursome of Constance Okollet from Uganda, Africa; Ursula Rakova from Carteret Islands, South Pacific; Ulamila Kurai Wragg from the Cook Islands in the Pacific; and Sharon Hanshaw from Biloxi, Miss. is on a 30-city tour that includes Washington, New York and Toronto.

The tour will continue to Asia and the Pacific in Fall 2010 and to Europe in Spring 2011.

The women will share their experiences and offer an agenda they feel can be acted upon to guarantee a safe, just and sustainable future.

The project was born in New York City in September 2009 and was called "Global Women Take Action on Climate Change." Since then, it has grow into a similar project in Copenhagen titled "Women's Leadership on Climate Justice--a Global Perspective."

On Thursday evening, they will present a public conversation with a panel made up of Indiana State Representative Mary Ann Sullivan, Hobbit Gardens owner Constance Ferry and Jen Everett, assistant professor of philosophy at DePauw.

Terry Hall, a partner with Baker and Daniel law firm, will give the keynote address.

The public is invited to attend the event. Light refreshments will be served after the event.
