GHS senior Jordyn Lewis pulls in a pop fly in right field during Tuesday game against Cascade.

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle softball team battled Cascade Tuesday and held the Cadets in check until the fifth inning, when the only run of the game was scored. The Cadets defeat Greencastle 1-0 on the night.

GHS had their shot in the bottom of the seventh, but a base running miscommunication ended any hope the Tiger Cubs had of forcing extra innings.

Greencastle held Cascade scoreless for four innings, but Bridget Smith got things going with a big double down the left field line. She found her way to third and when Greencastle tried to throw out Lauren Cooper at second base, Smith seized the opportunity and rocketed to the plate for the only score of the evening.

Facing the 1-0 deficit entering their final at bat, the Tiger Cubs had their shot at possibly tying the game after Jessie Bennett hit a single to left field. She was replace on the first by pinch runner Erynn Beck, but a miscommunication resulted in Beck being thrown out at second base for the first out.

A batter later, Jordyn Lewis crushed a shot to left-center field for a double, but a pop out by Kandice Phillips ended the contest. Lewis' double was the only extra base hit for the Tiger Cubs on the night.

Greencastle head coach Robin Knapp was unavailable for comment following the game.

On Monday the Tiger Cubs fell to Cascade 4-3.

Miller was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one stolen base. Kaytlynn Beaman was 2-for-3 two RBIs, while Taylor Pruitt, Kayla Downing and Lewis added a hit each.
