Greencastle earns pair of wins

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle girls' tennis team won a pair of matches recently. GHS defeated Edgewood 4-1 Monday and then downed South Vermilion 5-0 Tuesday.

On Monday, No. 1 singles player Kate Babington defeated Hannah Douglas 6-1 and 6-0, while No. 3 singles player Harriet Watson defeated Tyla Holmes 3-6, 6-4 and 7-5. Katie Farris, the GHS No. 2 singles player, fell in two sets 7-5 and 6-3.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team Katie Collins and Lauren Kenney got the win over Stephanie Emmons and Morgan Pruitt 8-6 and 7-5, while the No. 2 team of Emalie McClain and Nicole Boyle defeated Savanah McPike and Devyn Partlebaugh 6-4 and 6-2.

GHS also won the junior varsity matchup with Edgewood 3-1. The teams of Ashley Holmes and Hilary Schroeder, Kara Birt and Carlie Harlan and Bethany Wathen and Mikayla Guyer all picked up wins

Against South Vermillion Tuesday, Greencastle won all five matches on the night.

Babington once again won at No. 1 singles over Kayla Battaglia 6-0 and 6-1, while Farris defeated Erin Holbert 6-0 and 6-0. Watson won in two sets over Ashley Farrington 6-1 and 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Collins and Kenny downed Jessie Lubourch and Emily Walters 6-1 and 6-1 and McClain and Boyle won over Katellyn Roberts and Brittany Battaglia 6-1 and 7-5.

The Tiger Cubs defeated South Vermillion 4-1 in junior varsity action. Picking up wins for GHS were Holmes and Schroeder, Brooke Buckner and Haley Romer, Birt and Harlan and Wathen.
