TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle boys' golf team fell four strokes short of Terre Haute South Monday, falling 152-156.

The Tiger Cubs had three golfers score sub-40 scores. Brad Haussin led the way with a 38, followed by Eric Embry and Tyler Hopkins with a 39. Jimmy Wheeler carded Greencastle's final varsity score with a 40.

Also recording scores for GHS were Raymond Stinson with a 44, Derik Thomas with a 48, Wataru Otaki with a 51 and Dakota Miller and J.T. Hennette with a pair of 54s. Cy Spencer shot a 55 and Joe Kaiser finished with a 56.

"It's heartbreaking to lose a close one against such a good team, "GHS head coach Donovan Wheeler said. "But the upside is that we put up a better number than the score we had on this side of the course last Saturday."

Wheeler also noted two of his top four golfers closed their rounds with a double-bogey. He also said it was a good lesson to learn about the importance of finishing strong.

"I'm happy for these boys nonetheless. They are showing that they want to compete, and it's fun watcthing them get better," he said.

The Tiger Cubs are 4-1 in dual, tri or quad matches and 27-11 overall.

DANVILLE -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team edged North Putnam Monday 181-184 at Twin Bridges Golf Course in Danville.

For the Clovers, Chris Arnold posted a medalist round of 36, followed by Alex Evans 43 and Sam Jordan a 46. Ryan Book carded a 56 for CHS, with Colte Tomlinson adding a 59 and Tyler Deakin a 64.

North Putnam was led by Brandon Volland with a 44. He was followed by Mitch Marlow's 45 and Lance Clodfelter's 47. Colton Smith added a 48, Wes Deaton a 49 and Jon Willard a 50.

"Chris has a tremendous round," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "He had to overcome some big obstacles to succeed, and he did. Alex and Sam played reasonably well also, but after that we had a big let down."

Wokoun also commented about the conditions being much difference than what the team expected. He said the greens at the course are normally fast, but on Monday that wasn't the case. He also had some nice things to say about North Putnam and their head coach.

"Coach Martindale has been making good progress with his players, and they did some really good things. Their program is definitely on the upswing," Wokoun commented.
