BROWNSBURG -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team competed in the Brownsburg Invitational Saturday, placing 19th overall with a score of 393. Avon won the Invite with a score of 300.

Chris Arnold led the Clovers with an 83, followed by Gary Williams with 98, Ryan Book a 101 and Alex Evans with a 103. Sam Jordan rounded out the Cloverdale scoring with a 109.

"It was obviously not a good day for us," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "I think I underestimated the effect of playing in the wind on Thursday. We just didn't have very much confidence in what we were doing, and we didn't respond well to some of the challenges we faced on the course.

"We have to start believing in ourselves, and I did not recognize that problem going into the tournament. There were seven state ranked teams entered, and the competition was very good. But that has nothing to do with us and how we performed," he added.

Wokoun acknowledged the fact that Arnold struggled on the greens, while the rest of the team let a few minor things snowball into some big problems during their rounds.

"Chris had a tough day on the greens. He lipped enough putts to last a season, and they were the type that he normally sinks without difficulty. His play otherwise was very good. Our other players had good shots and good holes, but allowed a few bad situations to escalate and destroy their rounds," Wokoun said.

Monday the Clovers will host South Putnam and Tri-West, so Wokoun knows the team will need to respond quickly and have faith in their abilities.

"We don't have any time to lick our wounds, with South Putnam and Tri West coming to Cloverdale Monday. We just have to regroup and do the things we are capable of. We still have the chance to be a very good team, but first we need to believe that ourselves," Wokoun commented.
