Fenwick, Sutherlin, Dennis are primary winners

Just over two hours after the polls closed, Putnam County's results were in for Tuesday's primary election.

In the sheriff's race, incumbent Republican Steve Fenwick bested challenger Noble New Fenwick garnered 59.52 percent of the 4,348 votes cast.

Fenwick will face Democrat Garry Clark in the November General Election. Clark received 54.18 percent of 729 votes, edging opponent Frank H. Gardner.

Opal Sutherlin won the Republican nod for county recorder, beating opponent Jeannette Summitt. Sutherlin received 55.73 percent of the 4,111 votes cast.

For the assessor's office, Nancy Dennis narrowly edged opponent Lorie Hallett. Dennis received 51.57 percent of the 4,024 votes cast.

For County Commission District 2, Nancy Fogle defeated challenger Larry Parker. She garnered 52.56 percent of the 4,201 votes cast.

U.S. State Rep. District 8 candidate Steve Westell took the popular vote in Putnam County, garnering 29.99 percent of the 4,102 votes cast. His closest opponent was Dan Stockton, who received 25.74 percent of the votes.

U.S. Senate candidate Marlin A. Stutzman took Putnam County in the primary, receiving 35.30 percent of the 4,269 votes cast. Dan Coats followed Stutzman with 35.30 percent of the votes.

In total, 23.43 percent of Putnam County's 22,487 registered voters cast ballots in the primary.
