IDEM grants lift of ban

CLOVERDALE -- Indiana Department of Environmental Management has granted the town's request to lift the sewer connection ban effective April 28.

The commissioner terminated the ban, which was imposed in July 2006, after data submitted by Cloverdale indicated the hydraulic overload condition that existed was corrected.

The determination was based on the fact Cloverdale has completed Phase II of its wastewater treatment plant improvement, which eliminated bypass points and increased peak wet weather flow capacity.

"Because of actions taken to correct the hydraulic overload condition have been successful, IDEM is exercising its authority by terminating the sewer connection ban on all new sewer connections in the Town of Cloverdale," a letter from IDEM stated.

"This is a very positive thing," said town council president Cathy Tipton. "The ban being lifted will help economic development in the Town of Cloverdale."

IDEM reports show the average daily treated wastewater in Cloverdale was .446 MGD or million gallons per day from Jan. 1, 2001 through Dec. 31, 2009, which is 64 percent of the plant's design capacity flow of .7 MGD.
