James C. Scott, Jr., 87, Mitchell, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 20, 1923, in Atkins, Ark., he was the son of James C. and Minnie Scott. He married Venita Lawrence Oct. 4, 1947.

He had been employed at General Motors Powertrain and was a member of UAW Local 440. James was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Survivors include his wife Venita Scott of Mitchell; sons George Scott and wife Janet of Arkansas, Larry Scott and wife Lora of Roachdale and Brian Scott and wife Terri of Mitchell; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother R. A. Scott of Arkansas; sisters Mildred Capps of Arkansas, Betty Evelyn Scott of Arkansas and Zelma Scott of Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home, 705 W. Warren St., Mitchell, with Bro. Allen Burris officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Larry Scott, George Scott, Brian Scott, Brandon Scott, Jared Scott and Nathan Scott.
