DePauw commencement set for Sunday

Friday, May 21, 2010

GREENCASTLE -- It's been a wet week in central Indiana, but forecasters are calling for things to dry out and warm up in time for DePauw University's 171st annual commencement on Sunday. It's expected Saturday and Sunday will both be dry, with Sunday's high predicted to be in the mid 80s.

The graduation ceremony is set to begin at 1 p.m. outdoors in Holton Memorial Quadrangle. In the event of adverse conditions, the proceedings will be moved to the Lilly Center.

A total of 495 students are expected to participate in the ceremony. On Wednesday, crews began erecting the stage in front of Roy O. West Library.

Scientist and conservationist Wallace J. Nichols '89 will present the principal address at Sunday's ceremony. Dr. Nichols and Brian Lamb, the chief executive officer of C-SPAN, will receive honorary doctoral degrees at the event.

For a third consecutive year, the graduation ceremonies will be webcast live.

There is no reserve seating, thus early arrival is recommended. No tickets are needed for commencement if the ceremony is outdoors. However, if it rains, the number of people in the Lilly Center must be limited and tickets will be required. The tickets will be distributed to students during commencement rehearsal.
