Letter to the Editor

Accident a symptom of bigger traffic problem

Friday, June 11, 2010

Editor's note: This letter was written in response to "Motorist strikes child on bicycle," a story that appeared in the Wednesday, June 9 edition of the Banner Graphic.

Dear Editor,

My 7-year-old son and I witnessed this accident as we were riding our bikes up Anderson Street toward Bloomington. I am so glad to read that child involved is doing well.

This section of Bloomington bisects a residential neighborhood and presents a danger to all who need to cross. We cross it twice a day and the wait to cross is often long. Cars speed through from Veterans to Washington Street with nothing to slow them down and there is no way for pedestrians to cross safely.

I think that this stretch would benefit from either a crosswalk with a light or a stop sign. Near the park seems a logical place to install the pedestrian crossing.

The addition of a crossing would help make our children safer.
