Freda Jean Riddle

Mrs. Freda Jean Riddle, 92, of Greencastle passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Putnam County Hospital.

Born April 8, 1918 in Madison Township of Putnam County, she was the daughter of Emory O. and Maude Martin Brattain. She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1935 and received her degree in elementary education from Indiana State University, followed by a master's degree from DePauw University. She married Robert M. Riddle on July 15, 1951 and he preceded her in death in 1989.

Mrs. Riddle taught for over 35 years, having taught at Fillmore and Ridpath Elementary Schools. She was a 65-year member of the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Assn. and Order of Eastern Star, Greencastle.

Survivors include her sister Fauneil Stewart of Greencastle; a niece, Beth Stewart Barrett and husband James of Frontenac, Mo.; nephew G. Douglas Stewart of Columbus, Ohio; and a great-nephew and great-niece, Kyle Stewart Barrett and Andrea Zeis Barrett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and an infant brother, Wilbur Reece Brattain on Oct. 26, 1920.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Champion officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
