SR 42 closed for high water

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

CLOVERDALE -- On Tuesday, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced rising waters have caused the closure of State Road 42 due to rising waters.

The road is closed six miles east of U.S. 231. The closure will remain in effect until waters recede.

While INDOT's Crawfordsville district announced a number of other closures, none of the rest are local.

When encountering a flooded roadway, INDOT urges drivers to turn around and not drive through standing water. According to the National Weather Service, most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Six inches of standing water is enough to cause passenger cars to stall and a foot of water will float many vehicles.
