HERITAGE LAKE -- Survive With Character Camp 2010 ran from June 14 through 18 at Heritage Lake, and the organizers consider it "an overwhelming success."

The free camp was funded entirely by donations and benefited 160 campers from the North Putnam School Corporation.

Throughout the week, some of the daily activities included character building provided by Canaan Church and Little Oak Ranch, art classes from program director Aaron Allee, group games from program director Ian Russell, nature by Jan Sallee and a reading program directed by Lori Baker and Amber Russell.

Beside the daily program other highlights included, the Pacer Fan Van, fishing activities with the Department of Natural Resources, Floyd Fire Department cooling everyone off during the awards day program, music by DJ Greg Frejie, bounce houses donated by City View Church and Take Flight program with bird of prey presentation. First respondent was Connie Clodfelter.

Each day started with a prayer by pastors from the New Winchester Church, White Stone Church, Bainbridge Christian Church, Roachdale Christian Church and Calvary Chapel Fellowship Church.

Since this is a nonprofit event, donations have made this event a success and will continue to make it grow. The organizers wish to thank those who were part of this donation team.

"We could not have done it without your time, money, donated supplies. Let's do it again next year for more than one week," organizer Cindy Huddleston said.

Huddleston also wished to thank all the camp counselors, noting it was a very hot week.

Rural Transit provided transportation to and from the camp.

Organizers are now beginning to make plans for Survive with Character Camp 2011. There will be a meeting at the Heritage Lake Activity Center at 6 p.m. Thursday to begin organizing.

"Because this is a free camp we will need all those who share a passion for kids building character while having fun at camp," Huddleston said. "Committees for future plans will be shared at this meeting."
