Failure to stop on I-70 leads to 1 arrest

MORGAN COUNTY -- A driver of a sport utility vehicle speeding west on Interstate 70 was arrested Tuesday morning after failing to stop for law enforcement.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper David Furnas clocked a 2004 Acura sport utility vehicle traveling 83 mph in a 70 mph zone, heading westbound on Interstate 70 near mile marker 50 in Morgan County at 7:56 a.m. Tuesday.

Furnas attempted to stop the vehicle using his emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle continued westbound at speeds ranging from 80 to 90 mph. As the vehicle approached traffic from the rear, the driver would wait and then pass the vehicle as the opportunity arose. Furnas continued his attempts to stop the vehicle using his emergency lights and siren, but was unsuccessful.

As Master Trooper Furnas and the sport utility vehicle approached exit 23 of westbound I-70, Clay County Sheriff's Deputies Sgt. Jason Frazier and James Switzer were standing by with their emergency lights activated.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle then decided for unknown reasons to finally stop, nearly 27 miles from where Furnas originally clocked it. The entire incident lasted nearly 20 minutes and concluded near mile marker 23.

The driver was identified as 38-year-old Quy T. Tran, an Asian female from Carmel. Furnas took her into custody and transported her to the Morgan County Jail for incarceration. Preliminary charges were resisting law enforcement, a class D felony, and other miscellaneous traffic citations.

Furnas was assisted by other ISP Troopers and the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
