Wednesday, August 4, 2010

CLAYTON -- The Greencastle girls' golf team opened its season with a win over Monrovia Monday. The Tiger Cubs carded a score of 200, while the Bulldogs fielded an incomplete team.

Chelsea Samuels led the Tiger Cubs with a score of 42, with Katie Hedge adding a 48 and Diane Wokoun a 49. Kay Wood shot 61 and Makenzie St. Marie came in with a 70.

Monrovia's Morgan Knieper shot a 41 to earn medalist honors, while Chrislynn Church shot a 48.

"Overall, it wasn't too bad for our first match," GHS head coach Brad Kingma said. "We hit a number of really good shots, but we had too many awful ones. Hopefully, some of the rust of first match jitters will get worked out. I see quite a bit of potential for this team."

Greencastle will compete at the McCutcheon Invite tomorrow at 8 a.m.
