House fire under investigation

GREENCASTLE -- A Monday night fire caused what Greencastle Fire Chief Bill Newgent described as "significant damage" to a house at 900 E. Tennessee St.

Fire crews were toned out to a structure fire just after 11 p.m., a Putnam County dispatcher said. In addition to firefighters from Greencastle, representatives from Madison Township, Fillmore, Reelsville and Bainbridge fire departments and Operation Life ambulance service responded to the call.

Newgent said the fire is "under investigation," and that all pertinent information has been turned over to the Greencastle Police Department.

Greencastle Police Department Chief Tom Sutherlin said the Indiana State Fire Marshal would be at the scene today at 8 a.m. Until that time, Sutherlin said, a GPD officer would be stationed outside the residence "to make sure no one tampers with anything at the scene."

Newgent did say no one was home at the time of the fire. The home is owned by Shawn Little, whom Newgent said also resided there.

No injuries were reported.
