C'mon, take a free ride

Monday, August 30, 2010
The Waters of Greencastle has partnered with Rural Transit to provide free Rural Transit rides on the first Friday of each month. The program will begin this Friday. Rural Transit, which is part of Area 10 Agency on Aging, came to Putnam County in January 2009 with one bus and one driver. The program now has eight buses and nine drivers. In June, it had 3,906 passengers. Pictured are, from left, The Waters of Greencastle CEO Holly Wachtel, The Waters of Greencastle Marketing and Admissions Director Barbara South and Rural Transit County Coordinator Dan Alsip. "We're all about partnering with anyone in the community like this. As long as it has a good public impact, we're there," Alsip said. "We just want to make a contribution to the community," South added. Banner Graphic/JARED JERNAGAN

  • One wonders how much the county pays to subsidize this enterprise.

  • I love The Waters. People can trust that they will take care of their loved ones... Holly is so sweet and so is Deb!

  • Its a shame they wont travel between two houses which connects two city streets to pick up an elderly disabled passenger (who is more than willing to pay, they claim their big ole bus can't travel the driveway but on two occasions when I came from out of state I saw this same bus pull down the driveway to pick other people up. What a waste of a service!
