Celebrating freedom

Wednesday, September 1, 2010
Members of the Greencastle Benevolent and Protective Elks met with Mayor Sue Murray Tuesday, as she proclaimed Sept. 6 through 12 as National Patriotism Week in Greencastle. The proclamation urges all citizens to join with the Elks in expressing gratitude for the privilege of American citizenship with appropriate celebrations and observations. One such celebration is slated for Sept. 10 at the Elks Lodge, 202 South Indiana Street, when there will be an appreciation dinner for all law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical workers from 6 to 8 p.m. Present for the proclamation and signing were, from left, Elks Treasurer Garnett Gorham, Mayor Murray, Exalted Ruler Teresa Parrish and Americanism Chairman John Sims. • Congratulations Greencastle Elks! Never forget, Our Flag stands for our people....millions of Americans who have worked and fought to preserve our freedom and way of life. Our Flag represents the union of 50 states and millions of people joined into one great country!
