State Police sobriety checkpoint, saturation patrol lead to 28 arrests

PUTNAMVILLE -- Indiana State Police Troopers from the Putnamville post conducted a sobriety checkpoint on U.S. 41 in northern Vigo County between midnight and 2 a.m. Saturday and arrested one driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

During the two-hour period, troopers checked 83 drivers, issued two traffic tickets, three written warnings in addition to the one driver who was operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Between 8 p.m. Saturday and 4:30 a.m. Sunday, troopers conducted a saturation patrol targeting dangerous and impaired drivers in the Putnamville District, inclusive of Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties. During this eightand a half hour extra patrol, troopers issued 126 tickets, 298 warnings, arrested 12 impaired drivers and made 15 criminal arrests for minor offenses.

The Indiana State Police Post at Putnamville is highly committed to traffic safety and will continue throughout the year with sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols.
