DANVILLE -- The Lady Cougar golfers ended the regular season in commanding fashion Tuesday.

Approaching the county tournament and sectional, the Lady Cougars came on strong against Western Boone at Cool Lake Golf Course Tuesday.

With four team members carding their personal best scores of the season, the team also carded its lowest team score of the year as well.

Ellen Wilborn and Valerie Scott both posted 47s, Josie Parent carded a 49 and Emmy Rees helped the team reach its goal of scoring under 200 by scoring a 52.

Carlie Shearer stayed consistent with a 55, Meagan Schutter shot a 62, and Courtney Smith carded a 63.

Western Boone also had several players score their personal best as well and were able to come out on top with a score of North Putnam 195 and Western Boone-182.

North Putnam head coach Linda Patrick said the scores didn't reflect the exceptional golf the Lady Cougars played on the night.

She also said the team's score was achieved by incurring fewer penalties and concentrating on having two putts or less on each hole. The Cougars were able to shave off 63 strokes from their score against Western Boone last year.

Patrick said she's very pleased with the performance of all team members as they near the last two major meets of the season.

"The girls have worked diligently all season constantly improving skills, working on the short game, making putts count and simply playing smart and avoiding penalties," Patrick said. "It is all finally coming together for the team."
