CLOVERDALE -- A fire in a field near C.R. 700S and C.R. 425E was put out by the combined efforts of the Cloverdale, Greencastle and Jefferson township fire departments Wednesday.
The fire was on a Butler Family Farm's field. Matt Butler saw the fire start.
"There was a hot spark from the combine that caught on," Butler said. "It went up really fast, in 20 minutes or so."
The call went in at 2:03 p.m.
Dale Mendenhall, the Jefferson Township volunteer fire department's chief, said they used a combine to isolate the fire and then sprayed out what remained with water.
"It was burning for about 30 minutes total," Mendenhall said. "Approximately eight to 10 acres of soybeans were burned."
