Cougars fall to Mustangs

VEEDERSBURG -- The North Putnam volleyball team fell to Fountain Central Monday in three sets, losing 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14.

North Putnam head coach Jill Schrieber said Monday's loss came down to committing too many errors in the mental game. She also acknowledged a key position on her team is currently in transition.

"We played well at times and then small mental errors hurt us," Schreiber said. "We are playing without our starting libero, which hurts us defensively. She makes a big difference in the back row. We have another girl stepping up in the position that is doing a great job. It's a hard position to fill, especially if you are not used to playing that position. There are many different rules you have to know as a libero, when you can sub and how to sub and how long you have to sit out before you can sub again. "

A positive she took from the match on Monday was the fact the girls were stepping up and performing well for the Cougars.

"We had some other girls step up tonight (Monday) and play well for us. Our middle hitter and outside hitter did a great job tonight offensively," Schreiber said. "We are trying new line-ups to see what works better for this team. The girls are adjusting well to playing in different positions."
