Picnic tables in the park

Tuesday, October 12, 2010
The Friends of the Park Association was presented with a $1,000 grant award from the Putnam County Community foundation in June to assist with the purchase of accessible picnic tables for the three shelters in Robe-Ann Park. Boy Scout Troop 99 assisted with the assembly of the tables. An estimated 2,700 citizens are considered physically disabled in Putnam County, the majority of whom are between the ages of 21 and 64. Although Greencastle's park facilities have improved in terms of ramps and restroom facilities, picnic areas for wheelchair bound citizens have been limited. Now all citizens of Putnam and surrounding counties can enjoy family reunions, organization functions and meetings, as well as everyday usage of shelter facilities and picnic areas. Pictured with one of the new tables is, seated from left, Putnam County Community Foundation Grant Committee Chairperson Phyllis Rokicki, Friends of the Park officers Lynn Wilson, Joan Davis and Jan Firebaugh; standing, Community Foundation Community Development Director Eric Wolfe and Greencastle Parks and Recreation Director Rod Weinschenk.
