Tyler Hudson and the Greencastle boys cross country team advanced to regional after placing fourth.

GREENCASTLE -- After their girl's side placed second, the Greencastle boy's cross country squad placed two in the top 15 en route to a fourth place team finish and a place in Saturday's regional at Ben Davis High School.

Ryan Stevens and Tyler Hudson led the Tiger Cub charge, placing eighth and fifteenth respectively. Greencastle placed its scoring runners in the top half of the field, staying away from the tight fifth place spot won narrowly by Danville over Cascade.

It was a result that Greencastle coach Craig Callahan could take hope in.

"I'm very happy to know that we're moving on to regionals on Saturday. Just to qualify is awesome and we have a tough sectional. We're going up against bigger schools that have a lot of talent," Callahan said.

"Even Danville, Cascade have programs right now where they're competing with us and if you look at those top seven schools, we're all fighting for positions there. To come in fourth, to qualify, we're extremely thrilled. We can't wait to get there on Saturday."

"I was very happy with my guys today, and I always am because I know they're going to go out there and push themselves as hard as they can. Ryan Stevens just continues to come out and push himself harder than the week before. This is the third meet we've had here in eight days and he has consistently run a low 17:00 number."

South Putnam placed seventh but impressed coach Brian Gardner.

"As far as the guys that raced today, we did pretty well. Overall, I though Hunter Barr running in 21st for us, bettered his time by 10 seconds for a personal best on our course, was great for him.

"For Shea Arnold, Jorge Cavell, Tanner Barr and Andrew Kelly, four seniors and their last race, I thought they did a good job of competing tonight. For the year I thought they've done a great job of being great leaders for out younger kids."

"I thought it was a great year for what we wanted to accomplish. Maybe didn't finish as well in county and conference but still were second in the county and third in conference. That's a pretty successful year."

North Putnam head coach Kevin Lutes was excited by his squad's day.

"I was glad we ended up twelfth overall. I know at least five had their best run today. Everybody was hitting right where they needed to be today. Again, maybe we've had a full boys team at just a few meets where it's been people consistently running together and trying to get them to look to the future. That hard work will pay off," Lutes said about his guys squad.

"I was just thrilled we placed twelfth. Every time we they came to practice I just wanted them to give their best and everybody has done that. As long as everyone keeps doing that, I love coaching North Putnam running teams," Lutes concluded.

For Cloverdale head coach Katie Mosley, it was a start for the future.

"The boys, Joe started out way too strong, way too fast. I told the kids it would be a fast start with so many teams and so much adrenaline. I think he just started out way too fast."

"But he finished strong. He had a decent time. The other boys did a decent job. They're a young team. I'm proud of what they did this season," Mosley continued.

"It was a fun season. I like these kids. It was a good building block. We've got a lot to shoot for next year and I definitely want to pick up next year where we left off and not have to build from scratch."
