Grass fire blazes in Reelsville

Wednesday, October 13, 2010
A fire behind a house got out of control Monday after a man burned something in a barrel in Reelsville. It took about 20 minutes from when a neighbor called 911 before fire trucks arrived at the scene at 9597 S 550 W. At least three trucks from the Reelsville Fire Department and two from Cloverdale assisted with putting out the fire, according to a neighbor who witnessed the fire being put out.

  • Burning anything during these extremely dry conditions is a very bad idea. It can get away from you very quickly and puts your house and those of any neighbors at risk. Don't take a chance!

  • First of all, twenty minutes (after the homeowner called 911) for a response time is really good considering Reelsville is a VOLUNTEER fire department. They did a very good job getting the fire out with the assistance of Cloverdale and Greencastle. We're lucky to have them! And, the teenager who was burning trash in the barrel learned a very valuable lesson as did his father.
