North Putnam Food Science team places 11th, earns silver ­in national competition

FFA Adviser Katrina Skirvin, Keegan Foltz, Valerie Scott, Tari Straziscar and Tatum Straziscar recently placed 11th in the 2010 National FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event held Oct. 20 through 23 in Indianapolis. The team earned a silver placing in competition.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Members of the North Putnam FFA Chapter in Indiana placed 11th in the 2010 National FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event (CDE) held Oct. 20 through 23 during the 83rd National FFA Convention.

The team earned a silver placing for their efforts.

Participants in the event were asked to take an objective test, design and formulate or reformulate a simulated food product, conduct nutritional analysis and apply food safety as well as sanitation principles.

The National FFA Food Science and Technology CDE is sponsored by Kraft Foods as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. It is one of 23 different national events that use the fun of competition to connect classroom learning and careers.

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 523,309 student members as part of 7,487 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
