Juvenile detained for sexual contact

CLAY COUNTY -- Indiana State Police Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Putnamville Post are currently investigating a complaint of child molestation involving an 8-year-old female.

The alleged incident occurred Wednesday evening at a residence near Carbon in northern Clay County. The 8-year-old victim accompanied her grandmother to a residence near Carbon to visit friends. During the course of the visitation, the young victim requested to use the restroom and was escorted to the bathroom facilities by a 15-year-old male friend.

The male then allegedly entered the bathroom, disrobed the young female and inappropriately touched her private areas. The young female immediately told her grandmother who then contacted law enforcement.

A Clay County resident, the victim was not injured nor treated at a medical facility. The suspect has been detained by Clay County Juvenile Justice authorities and is awaiting court proceedings.

The case was investigated by ISP detectives, Sgt. Troy Stanton and Chris Carter. They were assisted by ISP Troopers Jim Cruse and Todd Brown, along with the Clay County Prosecutor's Office.
