First Taste of Putnam County deemed success

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

To the Editor:

The inaugural Taste of Putnam County was a hit!

We had approximately 350 attend the Nov. 6 event at the Dixie Chopper Business Center, and it was a great evening, with great food, great music, and great fun.

This event took months of planning and work by a committee of dedicated volunteers, but in the end what made the evening so successful were our local restaurants and vendors who provided our attendees with so much delicious food. We have so many great dining choices in this community, and to have so many of them in one room, at the same time, was amazing! We are already looking forward to next year.

As earlier mentioned, this event took a lot of planning and a lot of community support. On behalf of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce I would like to thank the following: First and foremost, our restaurants and vendors, Almost Home, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chief's, Final Approach Restaurant & Pub, Humble Pie, Monical's, Old Topper Steakhouse & Pub, The Inn at DePauw, Treasures on the Square, and DeMarle at Home.

We hope that each of them will want to participate again in 2011.

Also, we want to thank our musical acts, Anthony Mullis, Blues Side Up, and Barbara Ellen, and a big thanks to Greg Hedge for taking care of the sound system for us.

We also couldn't have pulled this event off without our co-sponsor, the Dixie Chopper Business Center. It is the perfect place for this event, and we are so fortunate to have their support.

We also want to thank our other event sponsors, the Banner Graphic, Big Bounce House Fun Rentals, Crossroads Communications, Duke Energy, Greencastle Offset Printing & Graphics, Putnam County Hospital, Wal-Mart Distribution and WREB 94.3FM.

Thank you for believing in this event and helping to make it a reality.

Thank you to the Taste of Putnam County committee members and volunteers who worked very hard before, during and after the event: Jennifer Bedwell, Jinsie Bingham, Amber Bowers, Pam Foxx, Laurie Hardwick, Christine Klinger, Colleen Matthews, Josh Richardson, Brian Smith, John York, Keith and Melissa Archer, Beau Battin, Beth Flint, Jim Hardwick, Jacob Harvey, Brad Johnson, Lida Rose Keller, Melanie Welker, and the very helpful Res-Care student volunteers.

I also want to thank Putnam County Rural Transit for providing free bus rides to the Taste of Putnam County for DePauw University students, and to the following local businesses for sponsoring and manning the Kid's games: Bright Futures, Hickory Creek at Sunset, Old Topper Steakhouse, and Visiting Angels.

Finally, last but not least, thank you to all who attended. We hope you enjoyed the event, and most of all, we hope you will be looking forward to the 2011 Taste of Putnam County.
