Albert R. Wood, 88, of Fillmore, passed away on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1921 in Hendricks County to Samuel R. Wood and Elizabeth "Axie" Jaragin Wood.

Albert served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Stanly in Pearl Harbor. He attended Fillmore Christian Church and was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 1550 and American Legion Post No. 58. Albert was a retired farmer and had worked at Eastern Express Trucking as a night spotter and Chief Trucking as a dispatcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years, K. Laverene "Dolly" Foust Wood; a brother, Odell Wood; and a sister, Marie Knudson.

Surviving are his children, Richard Wood and wife, Joyce of Fillmore, Paul David Wood and wife, Vicki of Pegram, Tenn., John Wood of Fillmore, Charles Wood of Fillmore, Alberta Fowler and husband, Mike of Coal City, Melodye Beams of Indianapolis, Claudia Jean Minnick and husband, Kevin of Gosport; brother, Norman Wood of Greencastle; two sisters, Jerri Goss of Greencastle and Emma Jean Wood of Greencastle; special friend, Amelia Stedman of Fillmore; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Hallie Taylor officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fillmore Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
