GREENCASTLE -- Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1374 has announced a gift of $500 to the U.S.O.

The U.S.O. is a private non-profit entity chartered by the U.S. Congress to provide stateside and overseas support to armed services personnel, while away from home.

The donation came from money raised in September during the Putnam County Airport Appreciation Days event. The money was raised during a unique entertainment event, the "Dixie Chopper Radio Hour." This event was a throwback to old time radio shows.

This year's show was modeled after a program broadcast during World War II on the Armed Forces Radio Network. The program was centered around letters sent in from actual service members stationed stateside as well as in the Pacific and European theaters of operation. The service members would write a letter to the radio network requesting some sort of performance; the request would be honored, and a Hollywood personality would perform the task requested. The title of the radio program was "Command Performance".

The money donated by EAA Chapter 1374 will be used by the U.S.O. to help provide prepaid calling cards to armed service personnel stationed overseas. This is especially important during this time of year.
