GREENCASTLE -- This Wednesday the Bells of Gobin, a bell-ringing group from Gobin United Methodist Church, held a concert at Autumn Glen retirement community.

Brian Howard is the leader and has been with the group for eight years.

"I've been doing it here since 2002," Howard said. "I think that Gobin had bells for about five years at that time. So a total of 13 years. Some of the people in the group have been ringing that whole time."

The concert at Autumn Glen featured both bells and chimes. The chimes were on loan from Asbury Towers, where the bells played a concert Monday.

Howard said that he hopes the group is able to play more concerts outside of the church.

"In the last few years we've mostly been playing in service about once a month," He said. "We were talking about having a spring concert as well. It's nice to have a larger goal than just working on one piece at a time.

Howard said that one of the advantages to Christmas music is that it's easier to prepare for.

"We had one extra practice but we basically just pulled out these pieces a month ago and just started working them up," Howard said. "The advantage of Christmas music is that it's pretty familiar so it doesn't take much to work it up."

Howard said that the group rehearses for about a hour week, preparing one song to be played during a service. This concert was slightly different.

"I think it came together pretty well," Howard said."We didn't have as much time to spend on each individual piece, but we've gotten pretty good at working together as a choir.
