GREENCASTLE -- Thursday night, parents and children gathered at Deer Meadow's cafeteria for a Brickmania! Lego Christmas.

Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department hosted the event. The first 12 attendees to sign up received a limited edition Lego Santa.

"We tried to order some more and they were out," said Troy Scott, the assistant director of the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department. "They were going for something like $15 on Ebay, so you have a collectors item, I guess."

As the event started moving, kids and parents huddled up, trying to interpret the directions that came with the Santa, which included a reindeer and sled. More than one pair ended up with someone searching the carpet.

As the parents and children were working, a teenager came in and set up a small display of various Lego parts.

"This is Sedrick Weinschenk, and he had to set up a business for his American Business Merit Badge," Scott said. "He's selling Lego people."

For $3, someone could buy a Lego figure, including a hat and an item to carry. One boy gave Santa an employee with a phone, to call ahead in case he ran out of gas. $1 per figure was used to purchase Lego building blocks for Brickmania! events.

Cookies and hot chocolate were also available at the event.

The next Brickmania! event will be a birthday party for Lego, which was first patented in its modern form on Jan. 28. 1958.
