After a hard battle with cancer, Karen Sue Garrett, 66, passed away peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas, on Jan. 11, 2011.

Sue was born in Greencastle on Sept. 22, 1944, and was the daughter of "Daddy Gene" and Dora Fern Maxwell. She was a 1962 graduate of Cloverdale High School. She received a Bachelors in Education at Indiana University and a Masters in Teaching at DePauw University.

She had been employed as a schoolteacher overseas and with the Cloverdale Community Schools for over 20 years. Sue retired from DLR Group, an architecture firm, in Phoenix in July 2010.

Karen Sue touched the lives of many. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was loved dearly by her friends and family.

Survivors include a brother, Gary Maxwell of Cincinnati, and her daughters Marla (Larry) Cavallo of Benbrook, Tex. and Melissa (Cory) Hurst of Granger. She had six grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held March 19 at the Cloverdale American Legion from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations are made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Please send condolences to sue85020@gmail.com
