Ruth Nina Stanger, 97, of Greencastle passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at the Mill Pond Health campus.

Born Nov. 4, 1913 in Russellville, she was the daughter of Walter Henderson and Mary Elizabeth (Blanton) Poynter and a graduate of Fillmore High School's class of 1930.

She married Herald Stanger on Oct. 14, 1933 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1996.

Mrs. Stanger had helped her husband farm. She was also a homemaker, an avid gardener and a fine seamstress. She was active in the Farm Bureau, having served as the women's leader and treasurer for several years.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Susan (William) Muir of Rockville, and Norma Jean (David) Stwalley of Dillsburg, Pa.; two sisters, Betty (Vernie) Zeiner and Wilma (Leo) Proctor, both of Greencastle; a brother, Walter (Marlene) Poynter of Greencastle; three grandsons, David Shuee of Bloomington, Brian (Kim) Stwalley of Dillsburg, Pa. and Duane (Sarah) Muir of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Anna Muir and Drew and Lauren Stwalley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Helen Fine and Fern Proctor.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Small officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday.
