Dorothy Lucille Smith, 81, Greencastle, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at the Hickory Creek at Sunset.

Born Aug. 31, 1929 in Greencastle Township, she was the daughter of Charles Ora and Maude Sarah (Gibbs) Slavens and a 1947 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Dorothy had a lawn maintenance business for several years, retiring in 2003. Previously she was a bus driver for 27 years with Greencastle and South Putnam schools. She also owned Smith's New & Used Furniture for 28 years and worked at Mallory's, Allison's and IBM.

She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Greencastle.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Jo (Brian) Christy of Greencastle and Cathy Ruth (Ben) Fulton of Bloomington; and five grandchildren, Jesse, Kenda, Megan, Nate, and Quinci.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Becky; four sisters, Ruth Cline, Hazel Spaulding, Madonna Slavens and Norma Jean Walton; and five brothers, Carl, Harold, Cecil, Lloyd and Glenn Slavens.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Revs. Frank Smith and Stanley Nicol officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
