Nonprofits served by Duke eligible for consulting help

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana youth-serving nonprofits in the Duke Energy service area are eligible to apply for specially discounted consulting services from the Indianapolis Youth Institute (IYI) as a result of a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation.

The program will provide 10 organizations with up to 40 hours of consulting at just $5 per hour, a significant discount from IYI's standard rate of $30 per hour.

Duke Energy serves all or parts of 69 counties in Indiana, including Putnam County. Organizations with questions about their eligibility for the grant should contact Carolyn Langan, IYI's program manager for consulting, at clangan@iyi.org.

Eligible nonprofits should fill out a special IYI Consulting Services intake form, which includes instructions for submitting the form to IYI for review.

This is a limited-time offer. Requests must be submitted to IYI between 9 a.m. EDT March 14 and 5 p.m. EDT March 15. Selected agencies will be notified by March 21.

In evaluations, 96% of IYI's consulting clients report increased knowledge and skills in management, and six to nine months later, 96% report serving more kids, providing more effective services that achieve better youth outcomes and/or increasing their cost- or time-efficiency.

IYI's track record of success in helping youth-serving nonprofits made the idea of partnering on this program very appealing, said Julie Griffith, Duke Energy Indiana vice president of government affairs and foundation relations.

"The recession has resulted in reduced budgets for many nonprofits, while more families are reaching out to those nonprofits seeking services for their children," Griffith said. "This grant will bring much needed help to organizations as they look for ways to make a difference in the lives of more children, and we believe that's an investment worth making in the communities Duke Energy serves."

The Indiana Youth Institute promotes the healthy development of Indiana children and youth by serving the people, institutions and communities of Indiana that impact their well-being.
