Phone glitch at Greencastle

GREENCASTLE ---- An automated phone system used by Greencastle High School called many parents, incorrectly saying their children were not at school Friday.

Marjorie Secrest was one of those parents. She said since she knew her child was at school, it didn't affect her day.

"I knew what had happened," she said. "I tried to call the school but I couldn't get through. I figured it just got sent out (on accident). It's not a big deal."

Attempts to reach Greencastle High School officials were not returned at press time, but the following automated message played when calls were made to the school.

"This is Greencastle High School. Several of you received incorrect phone calls saying your student was not here. These calls were sent out incorrectly. We apologize for the inconvenience," the recording said.

Do you want to talk about a glitch, we at in the North Putnam School Corp get calls at all hours of the night and all hours of the morning AKA 5:30 am for various reasons. As a Parent of four children understand the need for the EMERGENCY information system the school uses but I for one think they use it for things that they should either send home with the child or just inform the child of what ever changes that have occurred. Sorry but getting a call at 5:30 am to say that school is on a 2 hour delay could wait until 6:30 since school does not start until 8 something. Next we have the non emergent calls that happen after nine pm that talk about this game has been cancelled 2 weeks from now, or a school board meeting has been rescheduled. I am sorry those things have no reason to be mass called at late night or even at all. I am starting to think Ms Lovejoy likes us to hear her voice both before we goto bed and after.
