Student expresses concerns to state reps

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Dear Representative Bosma:

I am writing to you today to express my support for your actions in the Statehouse since the start of the legislative session, and particularly in the past few days. It is heartening to see and hear that the Hoosiers of this state can rely on your ability to stay the course -- however rocky it may be -- and work towards a better Indiana. As a college student from DePauw University, I have a vested interest in continuing to see our state grow economically. Your dedication to passing bills such as the school vouchers (HB 1003), right to work (SB 575), and a true balanced state budget, keeps Indiana from quickly sliding into a state of economic stagnation that would drive off companies and continue Indiana's brain drain.

The actions of the Democratic Party and its representatives are deplorable. The Republican agenda is far from "radical," as Minority Speaker Pat Bauer called it. The Republican agenda is our one hope of saving our great state from certain ruin.

By the Democrats' continued refusal to get back to work, they are wasting taxpayer's hard earned tax dollars and refusing to do the job they were elected to do. This action is akin to taking the Statehouse and the legislative process hostage. As a Republican representative, I ask you to not negotiate with the Democrat captors and stand firm on our future. The Democrats have a job to do, and they are skipping out.

These ideas presented in the Republican agenda need to be on the table, they need to be discussed and placed before the people of Indiana. Capitulating to the Democrats and their noisy tactics will only hurt Hoosiers -- including you and me.

Thank you for doing your job. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Margaret Musgrave

Dear Representative Bauer:

I am writing to you today to express my displeasure for your actions in the Statehouse since the start of the legislative session, and particularly in the past few days.

Governor Daniels has an agenda that will make Indiana better. By fleeing the state, you are responsible for keeping Indiana out of the race for economic and educational growth.

The actions of your Democratic Party and your peers are deplorable. The Republican agenda is far from "radical," as you called it. The Republican agenda is our one hope of saving our great state from certain ruin. By your continued refusal to get back to work, you are wasting taxpayer's hard earned tax dollars and refusing to do the job you were elected to do. This action is akin to taking the Statehouse and the legislative process hostage. You have a job to do, and you are skipping out.

These ideas need to be on the table, they need to be discussed and placed before the people of Indiana. You may think that this is the only option to have your party's voice heard, but you are wrong. For a party that supposedly stresses bi-partisan conversations, your hypocritical actions are destructive not only for open talks, but for Hoosiers across the state. I urge you to return to the table with an open mind ready for business, and not a mind focused on reelection by unions.

Get back to work. Do the job that Hoosiers elected you to do.

Sincerely,

Margaret Musgrave
