Greencastle Band benefits from endowment

Friday, March 11, 2011

To the Editor:

I recently hosted a Sweetheart's Dinner/Dance to help raise money for the GHS Band Endowment that I started in 2009. I was $4,000 shy of my goal and I needed to raise a lot of money by May 30. Approximately $3,000 was raised that evening with the help of the Greencastle community.

I want to especially thank Max Watts for his part in helping to raise a lot of the funds by taking the Silent Auction to a Live Auction. This brought in a majority of the money that evening. Heartfelt thanks to Rich Bell, owner of Sizzlin Sounds, for unexpectedly donating a $600 DJ event to the auction that night.

Local businesses that contributed are: Butler's, Headley Hardware, Bright Futures, Craftmakers Two, Family Video, Dixie Chopper/Final Approach, Lori Mundy of Identity Hair Salon, Windy Hill, Jenny Owens-Cripe for Party Lite Candles, Walmart, Treasures on the Square, Putnam Inn, Sherry Hedge, Cheryl Thomas, DePauw Theatre and Lori Lewis. Special thanks to my family for being helpful and supportive the entire week, I could not have had such a successful event without their help. The students in the Greencastle High School band will benefit from this endowment for years to come.

With heartfelt thanks and appreciation,

Marjorie Secrest
