Duke donates to Mary Allison Trust
When the Mary Allison Children's Home was established in Greencastle, it was a haven for children who, for one reason or another, did not have a family or home.
As the community needs changed, it became apparent that there were better ways to serve the deserving children of Putnam County. As a result, the home on West Columbia Street was sold and the Mary Allison Children's Trust was established.
The purpose of this not-for-profit trust is to meet the needs of children who reside or are being educated in Putnam County. This is accomplished by providing financial assistance for their health, education and welfare.
Each of the nine Putnam County elementary schools receives up to $1,000 per year from the Mary Allison Children's Trust to cover the immediate needs of these children. In the past, these funds have been used for eyeglasses, dental care, hearing aids and even minor surgery.
The elementary school personnel may also request additional assistance from the Mary Allison Children's Trust when special needs arise. Assistance is given when all other resources have been determined to be inadequate.
The goal of the board of directors of the Mary Allison Children's Trust is to provide funding necessary to continue the legacy of Mary Allison in improving lives of the children in Putnam County.
Putnam County Residents may become apart of the legacy by supporting the Mary Allison Children's Trust in one of three ways::
* $10.00 to $100.00 Trust Friend
* $101.00 to $499.00 Trust Partner
* $500.00 and up Trust Patron
