Hattie Daythel Poe, 91, Cloverdale; formerly of Greencastle, passed away on March 25, 2011 at The Waters of Greencastle.

She was born on Dec. 20, 1919 in Parke County and was the youngest of eight children of the late Albert and Rose (Lancaster) Thompson.

She was a 1937 graduate of Greencastle High School. She had worked at the Greencastle Telephone Exchange and ran The Vogue Beauty Shop in Greencastle. She joined the First Baptist Church in Greencastle in 1936 and later joined the First Christian Church in Greencastle where she was very active in various church activities along with her husband Charlie.

She married Charles A. Poe in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1971.

She was a devoted homemaker and wife, she and Charlie raised two children, Bruce Poe, Cloverdale and Rebecca Rogers, Greencastle, who survive. After her husbands passing she continued to own and operate Poe Oil Company, local distributors of Gulf Oil Company, which was in business for over fifty years.

In addition to her children she is survived by her son-in-law, Michael Rogers, Greencastle; her grandson, Michael L. Vance, Greencastle; her sisters, Maybelle Rice and Helen Godfrey, Greencastle; and her sister-in-law, Kathryn Thompson, Greencastle.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her grandson, Mickey Vance; her sisters, Lorene Blacketer, Louise Sallust and Irene Wood; and her brothers, Fred and Glen Thompson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
