Tuesday broadband interruption caused by equipment failure

Thursday, March 31, 2011

Cinergy MetroNet customers in the Greencastle area experienced an interruption in service Tuesday morning that was the result of equipment failure.

The company originally intended to have their network down during the night to perform routine maintenance work on their broadband servers. The equipment failure caused service interruptions to last until 11 a.m, with some sporadic service earlier in the morning.

Marianne Cox, who works in community relations with Cinergy said the issue was "Too technical and involved to be able to explain easily."

In a press release from the company, Kevin Stelmach, the general manager of Cinergy Metronet apologized for the outage.

"Despite our best planning, sometimes things happen outside of our control that can affect our services. We recently experienced one of these events. Our staff worked hard to fix the problem," Stelmach said. "We apologize for the inconvenience this outage may have caused. Our customers are very important to us and we will continue to focus on providing the best possible service in Greencastle."

  • Having both TV & Internet through Cinergy, we were left with basically no access to world and local news and events during the outage. Thank God for our weather radio or we would have been at a real risk. I do wonder though, how many people had a serious increase in their daily productivity during the outage?
