Putnam County holds pond field day

Friday, April 8, 2011

Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District will be sponsoring a pond field day on April 18 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Hosts for the field day are Ron and Carol Smith located at 4846 E. County Road 50 S. Fillmore.

Ponds once served a utilitarian purpose as a source of water for farm livestock. While this practice has changed as other watering systems have become more readily available, ponds' popularity as recreational areas for families has grown.

Who doesn't enjoy the sound of water, the sight of wildlife water brings and the fun of fishing or other recreational activities water provides?

Bring a lawn chair on April 18 to learn more about ponds, pond planning or a dream pond.

This free workshop will cover all topics related to ponds, from planning and construction, to management and safety. Registration is not required; however, the event will be canceled if the weather is inclement. Contact the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District at 653-7454 before 11 a.m. April 18 if the weather is uncertain.
