John Sautter, known for his stories of Purdue University history and Purdue basketball history, will be the guest speaker at an April 26 dinner hosted by the Purdue Club of Putnam County.

The 6:30 p.m. dinner at Autumn Glen is open to the public.

Sautter, who presently serves as a special assistant to the executive director of the Purdue Alumni Association, retired last year from Purdue as a vice president for housing and food services after 39 years with the university.

Besides overseeing student housing and food services, Sautter was also involved in the planning of major improvements at the Purdue Memorial Union and the Elliott Hall of Music. Along the way, he has gathered a vast amount of information on Purdue history and enjoys sharing little-known stories of Purdue's past.

Sautter has also had a long and harmonious relationship with Purdue athletics. He helped develop the All-American Dining Hall in Cary Quadrangle, which serves all 18 Purdue teams.

For the past 30 years Sautter has served as the official host to visiting basketball coaches. Prior to each home game, he accompanies the coach until the team leaves campus after the game. This has added to his treasure trove of tales about Purdue.

Ron Birt, president of the Purdue Club of Putnam County, invites the public to this special dinner and program. Cost for the dinner and program is $20 and reservations can be made by calling Marianne Ash at 386-7554, Jerry Williams at 653-3523 or Shirley Steward at 386-7590.

The Purdue Club is open to anyone in Putnam County with ties to Purdue University. Its goals include promoting Purdue as the college choice for students and giving scholarships to county students who attend Purdue, promoting awareness of Purdue programs, and promoting fellowship among Purdue friends.

The club has awarded $12,100 in scholarships in nine years.
