Curious Clovers advance to Global Finals in May
On Saturday, April 16, the Curious Clovers walked away from the State Destination Imagination as runners-up in the Improv Challenge. Team members include: Tyce Jackson, Hannah Long, Annika Whitlock, Jimmy Tate, Evan Williamson, Sarah Baker and Eddie Mannan. Brad Sandy coaches the team.
With this outstanding placement they will now advance to the Global Finals to be held May 25-28. The global tournament, which attracts teams from regions all over the world, will be held on the University of Tennessee campus.
Destination Imagination is an academic tournament where students solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions. At the tournament their skills are also put to the test with an instant challenge. The Curious Clovers choose the Mythology Mission. In this challenge they were to choose six countries along with six mythical creatures and gather data and research on each.
They are also given a list of props in which they are to choose certain ones to bring. The props the chose include: a walking stick, mop, cooking pan, book, hat, gloves, mailing labels, duct tape, Velcro, bungee cord and a box of paperclips. At the site the team then draws envelopes that contain the country and three props they will get to use in their skit. They are then given five minutes to prepare the skit all while the audience is watching. At the end of the prep period they take their places and get ready to perform their skit, only to be handed an unexpected problem that they must also incorporate into the skit.
It is very costly to get this team to the Global Finals. Their entry fee includes their room and meals on the campus and the registration fee. Any business or individuals that may be interested in donating monetary support to the team is asked to contact: Brad Sandy at Cloverdale Elementary School.
