Leading the way for the East was Alvin P.J. Boutte of Thomas Carr Howe Academy, who impressed those in attendance with his quickness and ball-handling skills on the way to a game-high 21 points. CLASS 2A GIRLS GAME: East 53, West 49 (OT)

South Putnam's Kelsey Searles scored six points as the West squad fell to the East 53-49 in overtime.

The game was remarkable for two reasons. First, it was the first time in the seven-year history of this event that a game went into overtime. Secondly, the East had to dig out of a gigantic first half hole to claim victory.

The West built a huge 36-12 lead with about five minutes left in the first half, but the East started chopping away at the deficit and went on an 11-2 run late in the half to close to within 38-23 at intermission.

The East climbed all the way back in the second half to tie the game 49-49 at the end of regulation. Brierra Young of Class 2A state champion Fort Wayne Bishop Luers scored all four of the points in the overtime to give the East the win. Young led the East with 14 points, while Samantha Beatty of South Spencer paced the well-balanced West squad with 7 points.

Nicole Perry of North Posey defeated Gabbie Duncan of Triton Central in the three-point shooting contest at halftime 6-4.
