Melvin Ray Barnett, 77, Putnamville, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011.

He was born on October 16, 1933 to Levi W. Barnett and Grace E. Frazier Barnett.

Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He was a graduate of Cloverdale High School and retired from Perfection Paint and Color after 43 years of service.

Surviving are his children, Robert W. Barnett and wife Deb, James G. Barnett and Crystal and Cindy S. Barnett; sisters, Norma, Mary, Marie, Virginia, Linda and Helen Sue; brothers Leroy, Levi, Joe, Ronnie and Donnie; six grandchildren, Shannon Barrow, Brandon Barnett, Devyn Watson, Christopher Allen, Jessica Darby and Samantha Garrison; one great-grandson, Travis Barrow; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, brother Glendon and sister Patricia preceded him in death.

Funeral services with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Melvin loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, crossword puzzles and playing the lottery.
