CLAY CITY -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team defeated Clay City Tuesday on the road, 160-169.

Chris Arnold paced the field after posting a round of 35. Gary Williams shot a 40, Sam Jordan a 41 and Colte Tomlinson a 44. Mike Matthews and Zach Hall both had rounds of 46.

"Chris played a very good round," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "He didn't have any really outstanding shots, but he hit a lot of good shots and worked his way around the course very efficiently. He is finding a groove and executing good golf with every shot.

"Gary and Sam had good efforts," he continued. "Their scores are stabalizing because they are managing the golf course very well. We have become a much better team with their play over the last week or so. Colte rebounded from some bad outings and seems to be finding his game again. I think we are all beginning to realize how good we can be when everyone is executing well.

He was also pleased with Matthews and Halls game, as well as a couple of his junior varsity players.

"Mike and Zach hit some good shots and have begun eliminating wasted strokes, although they need to continue in that process. Brody Pfaff and Aaron Whitlock did a nice job as our top two JV players. We are starting to develop some real competition for positions in our lineup, which we have lacked in the past. When Ryan Book returns, we will have a really solid group to battle for varsity positions," he said.
